Historic Adobe

The Owners view this home as a simple, urban oasis; a place to relax, calm down and remove themselves from the demands and stresses of their professional lives.  Nestled in the heart of Sonoma, this project centered on the careful preservation and thoughtful expansion of a historic Adobe home.  We left the original street-facing structure completely intact, maintaining its historic character.  We extended the home into the backyard creating an additional bedroom, a new detached study, and the replacement of an existing carport with a new carport.

The original home was known as the Nash-Patton Adobe and was built in 1847.  The main body of the building was comprised of four adobe walls forming a rectangle, with an area of 741 square feet.  This well-known historic building sits just one block from the Sonoma's historic plaza, is a registered California Historic Landmark (#667, registered in 1959), and is a contributor to the Sonoma Plaza National Historic Landmark Historic District (registered in 1974).  This historic Adobe is also a historic resource on the National Register of Historic Places.
